Sara's Top 10 of 2008

Posted on Dec 15 2008 by Ashley

One of my very favorite things about December is the fact that everyone makes lists of things they enjoyed and I get to learn of some awesome music I missed, as well as send my favorites to my friends. Sara's list below... T.I. as #1 kinda shocked me haha.

Sara of Tegan and Sara (Top 10 Albums)

Sara Quin of Tegan and Sara

1. T.I., Paper Trail
Anything with Rihanna guesting is my kind of jam.

2. Ra Ra Riot, The Rhumb Line

Killer. Plus Tegan and I both love it — a small miracle when we both like something.

3. No Age, Nouns

4. Fucked Up, The Chemistry of Common Life

Dallas, from City and Colour, recommended this to me. I love it. Sometimes on the subway, it makes me feel like I'm going to have an anxiety attack, but it helps with the "taking two stairs at a time" vibe I have when I hit the streets.

5. Atlas Sound, Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel

Became a pre-show favorite for me. Calming, but also strange.

6. Flying Lotus, Flying Lotus

Similar to my feelings above - great pre-show music, for both me and the crowd.

7. An Horse, Rearrange Beds

Bias! I love this band.

8. Jennifer O'Connor, Here With Me

This is my morning tea music. Sometimes I imagine myself stretching or lounging in a beam of sunlight, but generally just stare in horror in my e-mail inbox and swill coffee down my throat.

9. Chad Vangaalen, Soft Airplane

His voice makes me feel like crying and his albums make me think of snowshoeing.

10. Times New Viking, Rip it Off

Loud, fun.

Another Tegan interview with .org

Posted on Dec 15 2008 by Ashley

teganandsara[dot]org have done another nice little interview with Tegan!

On past albums you have welcomed numerous musicians to contribute to your songs. Have you ever thought about asking another musician to add a vocal part to any of your songs for the new album?

Honestly it has never crossed my mind. I don't think we would have someone sing but you never know. We for the first time ever are writing together and considering other co writes for the record so maybe Mariah will sing on our record. Or Rhi Rhi! Oh that would be amazing!

Laugh, Rage, Cry Blog on Spinner - Part 6

This Week's Theme is LAUGH by Sara Quin

My grandpa has a laugh that could be defined as contagious once airborne. He is a true master of storytelling. Leading you to the punch line, his voice picks up speed, the pitch of his words jerking towards the ceiling, his shoulders narrowing and hunching as he breaks into giggles. It's impossible not to laugh with him. My sister and I are known for telling stories at our shows, and everything we do we learned from our grandpa.

Laugh, Rage, Cry Blog on Spinner - Part 5

This Week's Theme is RAGE by Tegan Quin

As I type, I feel hopeful. Look how far we have come! As an example, below are some quotes from Paul Martin, the former Prime Minister of Canada, who, three years ago, stood before Parliament and defended the rights of gay people. I hope they give you the antidote you might need to turn back the effects of the rage you might be feeling in the wake of the Prop 8 debacle. Let it instead inspire you the way it did me. Let it promote movement and organization on your part to continue the fight for civil rights for all people. Let it remove the stain of this Proposition and instead give way to change.
